Sygic UK & Ireland: GPS Navigation App Reviews

It doesnt work!!!

It doesnt work on ios 9!!! My devise is iPhone 6 plus.

Useless without data roaming

I spent a week in Ireland and this app was all but useless. I could use it to view maps in a browsing sense, but it DOES NOT WORK as a GPS without connecting to a data netwok. The iphone uses a-GPS (assisted GPS), meaning that (at least in Ireland) it cannot tell where it is without the data netwok. I was sold on this app based on the fact that I did not want to pay for data roaming. Instead, I got to Ireland and found out that I would have to pay the car rental company an additional €60 for a GPS device because this software was useless as a turn-by-turn unit. What a letdown.

Excellent Navigation App

We use tomtom in the US and bought this is a lower cost option for the UK. We have actually found it superior to the tomtom in many ways. Works great with any 3G/3GS phone. Note this uses the Teleatlas maps - same as tomtom - just a different front end, which happens to be very comprehensive.

Terrible

Doesnt work in Ireland without data. Worthless.

Good

I used this app in Scotland (with iPad and a an "O2" data prepaid card I have got for this 15 days) and it was very helpful and useful! Very good indications and good real-time services like traffic and weather and speed cameras! I dont know about using it with no cell data! Ill try!

Couldnt have driven without it

I used this in Ireland (with no active data plan). I downloaded the maps prior to my trip, and used this GPS app every time I drove. There are a few small quirks that made it a tad difficult to use, but regardless of ease of use, this is still a MUST for anyone who is going to drive in Ireland. I was able to comfortably navigate to some very "off the beaten path" places to truly get a full Ireland experience. If you are going to Ireland and are going to be driving at all, spend the $30 and keep your sanity and safety!!! (used on a ipad2 with no data plan)

Worked well for us

We took a one week trip to Ireland. I considered updating my TomTom with the uk/Ireland map for $50, but chose this app for $25. The app was our primary navigation method and it got us to our destination every time. It took me a little while to figure out the user interface which is a bit clumsy as compared to the TomTom. It also took me a while to figure out that I couldnt put my iPhone 4 into airplane mode and have the GPS function, so I discovered that I could turn off the cell network by going to general settings>network. There were a few glitches where it seemed that Sygic just stopped tracking and I ended up power cycling the phone to bring it back to life. Theres also a mode where the tracking is held off until you do a "return." Aside from these issues, its a nice app and superior to the TomTom in that it fits nicely in my pocket and its so much easier to pan and zoom the map. We used it numerous times while walking through cities so we didnt get lost. I also have GPS Drive and Telenav apps, this one is superior to both of those. I am considering buying the US version of Sygic as a backup for the TomTom - just to be safe to cover for some time if it were to fail at a critical time. Oh btw- I like the voice navigation for this app much more than the TomTom. The guidance is well designed and voice quality is excellent.

Ireland

My wife and just tour Ireland. We are rookie travelers and this was our first trip to Ireland . We were unsure of ourselves but nonetheless decided to rent a car and tour ourselves. We rented our car left Shannon airport and nervously left for the Cliffs of Mohrer. We had absolutely no problems! The dreaded round-a-bouts were no problems, the verbal directions were great. The maps were better. We drove to Kenmare,Clifden,Galway and Dublin. The verbal directions were 95 percent accurate every so often the system got confused but with a little patience it righted itself. This happened once in Dublin as we were circling quickly around some one way confusing streets. The other incident(which were few) happened in out of the way roads and again quickly righted itself. My wife and I are rookie travelers and would not hesitate to purchase and recommend this gps system. Even when I would second guess my wife and this system I was proved wrong and learned not to second guess my wife or this system! We used an iPad 3.

Don

Dont plan to use this app for navigation--your trip will be over before its installed. I encountered the hang up at "initialization" at first attempt and after deleting and re-attempting 3 times. I tried the re-boot numerous times, even tried to download to a PC thinking I might sync to my IPad but the download has hung up on the PC as well. All of this has taken hours and some expense as each download requires I purchase extra allocation on my satellite system. Looks like a good package but you couldnt pay me to spend more time and effort finding out.

Wonderful!!

We went to Ireland and Scotland for two weeks on our honeymoon. I downloaded this app to use while we were driving around. It worked great! My phone didnt work there, so I needed an app that loaded everything into the phone. The routing was excellent. It got us everywhere we needed to go. A couple of times, it couldnt find the exact address, which wasnt the apps fault, but it got us close enough that we found the places within a minute or two. It made our drive through the countries easy. Without it, we would have had to have our face buried in a road map to figure out where we were going. This way, we could concentrate on the scenery and the drive.

Stunning!

The app is absolutely stunning! Helped us a lot when we traveled to UK!

Brilliant

Used Sygic for a week long trip to Ireland in October. We drove from Dublin and circled clockwise around the country. The app could not have worked any better. It is super, knew every road and never let us down. Downloaded it on a 4G iPhone (with desktop connection) due to the amount of data. Easy!! Used it in Ireland with data roaming off. I would highly recommend this app. Worth the price.

Great app!

Worked great in Ireland. Accepts GPS coordinates too. This works well in remote areas.

Great App

This app worked perfectly for us in Ireland. We downloaded it before we left the US and when we arrived, it worked like a charm. As others mentioned, the non-intuitive interface takes a bit of getting used to, but for the cost, it was a very good value.

Buy it, Buy it, Buy it!!!!

This is an amazing app. I used it while driving all throughout Ireland and England. It never took me the wrong way and was always dead-on, even on the tiniest of roads. It also worked for walking directions. Its some of the best money I spent for my trip!

Putting your mind at rest

So I was concerned this app might fail to live up to expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Works with nothing but GPS switched on (note airplane mode on will NOT kill your GPS signal), which is on most modern phones. No need for roaming or data for this to work. Navigation is clear and accurate - well worth the money. Thanks Sygic!

Great app

Great navigation - amazing for the price. Highly recommend and will pay for itself in bypassing the tolls. Had all points of interest that I was looking for making my travels all the easier

TTS is Terrible - Cant Make Settings Changes Permanent

Frustrating app made worse by above issues.

GPS worked excellent for me!!!

I traveled to Ireland last year and bought a garmin GPS with Ireland map chip... Of course for this years trip I couldnt find the chip with the euro maps. So reluctantly I searched for a GPS App. I saw low cost ones which were reviewed horribly. Then I came across this APP and saw good reviews. I wasnt happy with paying $24.99 after spending hundreds the year prior, but I figured it was a small price to avoid aggravation during the trip! I got to Dublin and got my rental car, which was off site, and started it up and realized I forgot to get a Irish SIM card for cell service to use the GPS! Luckily this APP worked with only the GPS signal in my iPhone 4S, it guided me flawlessly to Galway without a hitch, no Internet used at all! That alone saved me SO much frustration. I NEVER write reviews, but I had to share that this app is worth the $$. Buy with confidence. Pros: -Detailed maps!!! Even in deep county roads in Ireland - lane assistance when on motor way, shows which lanes you should stay in via a blue line on map, great feature! - voice is a pleasant British lady, sounds good and not annoying. - Gave good directions for upcoming round abouts, says to take "3 exit". So you can count while focusing on the madness of merging with all the lanes of vehicles instead of having to look at the phone. - again detailed maps! Was surprised how detailed it was! Cons: - Price should be $9.99 really... But compared to what else is available its by far the best deal! Avoid the crap ones, Ireland is a very difficult place to drive if youre from the states! - accuracy of best route, so this APP will get you where your going without a hitch... But my cousin (Irish) knew a better or faster way several times. Oh well, the app still works excellent. Just expect a local to say there might be a faster route. - searching function... It allows you to search for land marks. Im spoiled by using Yelp to find businesses and then getting exact directions from there. This APP had pre-loaded businesses and landmarks in it. It is very very basic and other than finding large known attractions or towns... You will not be able to type in a store and have it guide you. Youll need the intersection or address. ***TIPS*** - buy a window mount for your phone, I didnt and my phone fell off the dash so many times while going around the round abouts! Its a huge safety issue! - Ireland doesnt really have addresses, so use lat/long coordinates or intersections. - Save the car rental place as a favorite!!! Most are off site but near the airport. I couldnt find the location last year and it was horrible!! Seriously save it so you dont stress about missing flights and paying extra for the rental! - buy the full rental insurance! I never do in the US, but highly recommend it in Ireland/UK. Its a very common thing to have small accidents due to the narrow streets, driving on the left side, and the roundabouts are a mess to navigate... Nevermind the wet roads! - if you plan to drive alot, buy a diesel. Much better economy! BUT!!! Fill with diesel!!! In the US the pumps are green for diesel... In Ireland they were Black! Petrol/gas was green!!! Check and double check before you pump!!!!

Waste of money

Never worked offline with either my iphone5 or ipad! Had to buy a car navigation to get around the Ireland country side!!
